New Year New Smile
Make the resolution for a healthier smile! Achieving a healthier smile can start right at home and in your daily routine.
I’m sure you’re tired of hearing how important it is to brush your teeth, floss once a day, and visit your dentist twice a year, so I’m not going to tell you to do that (…oops, I just did!).
Instead, here are a few unique oral health tips that are easy to follow and will help you achieve a healthier smile in 2018:
- If you have high risk for decay or have no fluorosis, don’t rinse out the toothpaste after brushing. Instead, skip the water rinse and just spit out the toothpaste so that the fluoride stays on your teeth longer.
- If you’re a smoker, try reducing the amount of cigarettes you smoke to 6 or less per day. While quitting smoking altogether is the best thing you can do for your oral health, reducing your smoking to 6 puffs a day or less can drastically reduce the risk of bone loss around your teeth.
- If you have a sweet tooth, swap the added sugars with either xylitol or stevia. Unlike other sugar substitutes, xylitol and stevia are natural and have shown dental and medical benefits (especially xylitol). You can find both in most grocery stores and just remember to keep a few packs on you at all times so you’re always prepared.
So, there you have it! Making the resolution for a healthier smile is pretty simple. The best place to start is by forming those good little habits — they can really make a difference.
